Punteggio 93/100 · Da bere 2016-2020, Josh Raynolds, Jun 2016

Brilliant pale pink. A heady, strikingly complex bouquet evokes fresh strawberry, white peach, tangerine and pungent flowers, and suave vanilla and mineral elements develop in the glass. Deeply concentrated yet lithe and precise, offering palate-staining pit fruit, red berry, nectarine and honeysuckle flavors lifted by chalky minerality. Shows the silky texture of a top-notch white Burgundy and finishes extremely long, sappy and pure, displaying outstanding clarity and a lingering floral note. Made from 80-year-old (or older) vines and fermented and aged in new and used 600-liter barrels. Aside from its color, this wild and extremely impressive wine has very little in common with almost any pink wine in my experience.

Punteggio 15.5/20 · Da bere 2016-2018, Jancis Robinson MW, Apr 2016

Fine but not exactly thrilling – especially at the price, sometimes more than £70 a bottle. Fairly silky texture. But a little astringent on the very end. Off dry. Really rather ordinary for the money. Hot finish. (JR)

Grenache and Rolle. Alcoholic fermentation in new and second-year demi-muids. 10 months with bâtonnage twice weekly. Very pale salmon. Bright, slightly tart nose. Pretty simple. A bit sweet and sour but with a beautiful texture. Competent but not especially interesting. Though the light tannins should keep it going for a while. Very youthful. Definitely not at all ready yet. Here we get the full contingency of the 80+ year old Grenache vines, with a touch still of Rolle. For both Garrus and Les Clans, cooling tubes are placed directly into the barrels, ensuring everything slows down, taking up to four months and increasing complexity along the way. On the palate is slate, stone, a beautiful finesse and the barest hint of creamy lemon and burnished red fruits that have been deepened by a year of barrel fermentation and ageing. A beautiful salinity on the finish really takes this wine into totally moreish territory. Is the score too high for a rosé? Not if you are measuring it on the sheer pleasure that it gives.
