Pale gold. Meyer lemon, white flowers, honey and smoky lees on the highly perfumed, mineral-tinged nose. Chewy orchard and pit fruit flavors show very good depth, a refreshingly bitter edge and excellent focus. Becomes livelier and spicier with air, finishing sappy and impressively long, with building florality and a touch of candied ginger.

Bright yellow-gold. Powerful aromas of poached pear and nectarine are complicated by suave floral and brioche qualities. Smooth, smoky and expansive, offering concentrated pit and orchard fruit flavors that gain spiciness and weight in the glass. A hint of quinine appears with air, adding welcome bitterness and cut. Closes on a smoky note, with excellent persistence and lingering fig and bitter pear skin notes.
Easily the top white in the lineup, the tiny production 2013 Hermitage Blanc le Reverdy Estate comes all from the Beaumes lieu-dit and is a blend of equal parts Marsanne and Roussanne. It's a spectacularly rich Hermitage Blanc that exhibits lots of white peach, caramelized citrus, brioche and crushed rock. Full-bodied, with a rich, layered, textured style, it stay pure, clean and classy. Feel free to drink it over the coming 3-5 years, or cellar for another 10-15 years.
Cask sample. Made in oak. Deep gold. Smoky, rather soft nose. Round and honeyed but with less obviously floral notes than most. Fun and waxy but not layered – yet? Still pretty chewy but it builds most impressively on the finish. (JR)
