Saturated ruby. A highly perfumed bouquet displays aromas of ripe dark berries, cherry compote and vanilla, complicated by exotic floral pastille and peppery spice notes. Powerful blackberry and cassis flavors show excellent depth and building sweetness, along with a hint of smokiness. The spice and floral qualities repeat emphatically on the finish, which hangs on with superb tenacity and building tannins.

The star of the 2013s is the 2013 Côte Rôtie les Rochains. All from the Côte Blonde, it reveals an inky purple color to go with impressive notes of graphite, smoked earth, crushed violets and darker berry fruits. Medium to full-bodied, nicely concentrated with bright acidity and fine tannin, it drinks nicely today with a short decant but will evolve nicely for a decade.
Inky purple. Potent, deeply pitched aromas of black and blue fruit preserves, with notes of woodmoke and licorice adding complexity. Broad and velvety on the palate, offering weighty cassis and cherry liqueur flavors and a building suggestion of fruitcake. More powerful and structured than the Côte Rozier, finishing with excellent thrust and supple, mounting tannins.
Bright crimson. Inky mineral granite(?) nose. Lovely opulence on the front palate. Very charming indeed. Though at the moment there’s a slight trace of oak. (JR)
