Normal year. Vibrant garnet. Sweet, rather jewelly nose – the Pinot most like a typical Central Otago Pinot so far to me (though this is probably not the intention at Felton Road). Not that long. Quite a bit of tannin and dryness now, but perhaps this is the ‘minerality’ aimed for? Not the most generous fleshy wine at the moment. Wait? (JR)

(vinified with 25% whole clusters, like all of these Pinots; aged for 11 months in barrel): Medium red. Alluring scents of strawberry, cherry and rose petal gained in perfume as the wine opened in the glass. A bit lean but juicy and energetic, showing a firm edge to the flavors of red fruits, flowers and spices. Delicious Pinot.
Pale ruby-purple colored, the 2014 Bannockburn Pinot Noir has a ripe cherries, red plum and dried lavender scented nose with a waft of dried leaves. Medium-bodied, it offers a good concentration of plush red berry flavors and soft tannins, finishing with a herbal lift.
Picking earlier than ever – 2 weeks earlier than some producers in the region. 25% whole bunch. Delicate and lightly spiced. Supple and smooth, really very gentle but with a sustained spicy finish and a kick of freshness at the end. (JH)
