Punteggio 90+/100 · Da bere 2018-2023, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, May 2016

Bright, dark red. Tighter and more primary on the nose than the basic Central Otago Pinot bottling. Distinctly darker in fruit character as well but less expressive in the early going. More powerful and more sinewy but also more tannic and dry and in need of aging. A serious mineral spine energizes the middle palate. This tightly coiled, very intensely flavored Pinot needs a couple years in the cellar to unwind.

Punteggio 16/20 · Da bere 2015-2019, Julia Harding MW, jancisrobinson.com, Oct 2015

Very ripe fruit with lots of spice and barely recognisable on the nose as Pinot – more dark fruited and a touch floral. Oaky spice and chocolate on the palate. Firm, chewy. More flavour than elegance though the freshness on the finish at least reveals its Pinot identity. (JH)

"It seems that 2013 was a great year for Mount Edward's pinot noir wines. This single-Lowburn-vineyard bottling has a dark and brooding cherry and plum nose and is gently tarry, though there's also a slight undertone of creamy oak. Plenty of fleshy fruit comes forward along with a really confident frame of tannins that are finely cast, holding the flavors long and deep. This is finishes with lingering, plum-stone tang and butty, smooth ripe tannins. Seriously good pinot. Drink in 2017"
