(made with all whole clusters; aged for 18 months in oak casks, 20% of them new): Bright purple. Assertively perfumed aromas of cassis, candied licorice and incense, and a sexy floral pastille note that builds in the glass. Sappy, sweet and broad on entry, then tighter in the mid-palate, offering vibrant black and blue fruit and bitter chocolate flavors and suggestion of fruitcake. Finishes with suave floral character, slow-building tannins and excellent persistence.

The 2013 Hermitage comes from the Maison Blanche, Beaumes and Peleat lieux-dits. It was raised all in barrel (20% new) and has a classic feel to its medium to full-body, juicy acidity and firm tannin. Giving up lots of peppery herbs, crushed rock and assorted cassis and blackberry fruit, it has outstanding potential, but will require short-term cellaring.
Very dark crimson. Tense, savoury nose. Lovely fluid expression of Hermitage. More open than many but with refined tannins. (JR)
