Punteggio 91/100 · Da bere 2020-2025, Josh Raynolds, Mar 2016

Inky ruby. Vibrant cherry and black currant aromas are complemented by suggestions of black pepper, violet and olive. Taut and structured on entry and then more open in the mid-palate, offering red berry and bitter cherry flavors sweetened by a floral pastille nuance and a hint of cola. Shows very good lift and focus on the gently tannic finish, which hangs on with very good, floral persistence.

The most forward, seductive and perfumed of the Côte Rôties, the inky-colored 2013 Côte Rôtie Champin Le Seigneur offers lots of warm spice, crushed flowers, spicy oak and black raspberry fruit. It has a modern feel, medium-bodied richness and a textured, fruit-loaded personality that’s ideal for drinking over the coming 7-8 years.

Similar floral character to top Burgundy – Volnay or Vosne, perhaps. Some sweet oak on the finish. Pronounced black fruit on the palate with impressive persistence, and lots of woodspice to finish. (RH)

Bright purple. Heady, expansive aromas of black and blue fruits, potpourri and incense, with smoky Indian spice and vanilla notes emerging with air. Juicy blackberry and blueberry flavors are complicated by hints of smoky minerals and candied violet, with a peppery quality adding bite. Velvety tannins give shape to the long, spicy finish, with the floral note echoing.
