Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2025-2035, Erin Brooks, Wine Advocate, Sep 2024

The 2013 Lytton Springs is composed of 74% Zinfandel, 16% Petite Sirah, 8% Carignane and 2% Mataro. Medium to deep garnet in color, it begins with wafts of balsamic that give way to scents of candied cherries, licorice, potpourri and dill. The medium-bodied palate is smooth and supple with a deep core of savory fruit, bright acidity and a long, latent finish. It opens dramatically over an hour in the glass and will benefit from a bit more time in bottle—it’s nearing a peak drinking window but isn’t there quite yet.

A blend of 74% Zinfandel, 16% Petite Sirah, 8% Carignan and 2% Mataro. Tasted from jeroboam. Dark garnet. Smells of smoked meats and forest floor, dusty roads, frankincense, root beer and dark berries. Powdery tannins coat the mouth as vaguely minty and herbal flavours mix with dried herbs, forest floor and dark boysenberry fruit. Liquorice root and bright acidity linger with road dust, herbs and dried flowers in the finish. A dusty character. (AY)

74% Zinfandel, 16% Petite Sirah, 8% Carignan, 2% Mataro. A mix of spiced black berries and fresh herbs lift from the glass and carry into the palate. There is ample tannin and a sense of power here but it is quite fine-boned and upright at the same time – strong but not hefty. Quite persistent, nicely balanced acidity for a long finish. Plenty of structure and fruit to age. (ECB)

The 2013 Lytton Springs has really come together over the last year, far exceeding my early expectations. Powerful and explosive in the glass, the 2013 boasts tons of inky blue/purplish fruit, mocha, spices, new leather, lavender and licorice. Readers will have to give the Lytton Springs at least a few years to shed some baby fat, but it is nearly impossible to resist, even at this early stage. Once again, the team at Ridge has produced an absolutely compelling Lytton Springs. The 16% Petite Sirah in the blend adds an unmistakable air of gravitas.
