Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2021-2026, Josh Raynolds, Mar 2016

(from the Côte-Rozier; aged for 18 months in oak, 50% of it new): Brilliant violet. Smoky, mineral- and oak-accented cherry and dark berry scents are lifted by a suggestion of peppery spices. Juicy and expansive on the palate, showing excellent breadth and depth to the cherry-vanilla and blueberry flavors. Opens up slowly on the very long, floral-tinged finish, which is framed by dusty, fine-grained tannins. Showing its oak but there's plenty of material here to support it.

Lastly, and easily the most serious of the trio, the 2013 Côte Rôtie Rose Pourpre sports an inky purple color to go with serious minerality, lots of dark fruit, steel and smoked earth aromatics. Brought up in new oak, it’s medium to full-bodied, concentrated and nicely structured, with fine tannin kicking in on the finish. It will benefit from short-term cellaring and have 10-15 years or longevity.

100% Syrah. Dark crimson. Clean and fresh with density underneath. Very dry and all tucked in. Grainy tannins. (JR)
