In full flow on both the nose and the palate, the 2012 is gorgeous right now. Silky blue fruit, smoked bacon and fresh black pepper – you couldn’t be anywhere else. Whole-bunch spice mingles perfectly with cool but ripe fruit and fine, persistent tannins. Seductive and juicy but refined and spicy at once. Very long finish. Excellent. (TP)

More forward and approachable than I remember (yet that’s the vintage), the 2012 Cote Rotie offers beautiful aromatics of peppered meats, blackcurrants, olive tapenade and bacon fat, as well as loads of violets and floral notes with air. Rich, nicely textured, supple and forward by this estate’s standards, it nevertheless will continue drinking beautifully for another 10-15 years.
Light and silky – such a change from further south! Gorgeously round and supple but peppery scented and with a nice dry kick on the end. (JR)
The 2012 Cote Rotie is smoking good and should be up with the top wines from this estate. Inky colored, full-bodied and beautifully concentrated, it offers classic pepper, violets, bacon fat, olive and sweet cassis-like fruits. Opening up with time in the glass, it has the approachable, supple feel of the vintage, yet has more than enough mid-palate depth and fine tannin to keep it drinking beautifully for another two decades.
