Note di degustazione
Imagine my surprise to find out this wine hadn't been reviewed previously in this publication. From a warm year, the 2009 Gigondas shows a surprising amount of freshness, even folding in some bright berry flavors into the otherwise savory mix of roasted meat, soy sauce and dried fruit. It's full-bodied and supple, with a long, velvety finish.

(80% grenache, 15% syrah and 5% mourvedre): Opaque ruby. Complex, heady scents of dark berry liqueur, Asian spices, potpourri and minerals. Stains the palate with intense blackberry and cherry flavors accented by white pepper and allspice. Finishes sappy and incisive, with outstanding clarity and persistence.
A smoking Gigondas that has real heft and substance, the not yet bottled 2009 Domaine Raspail-Ay (80% Grenache, 5% Mourvèdre and 5% Syrah aged all in foudre) shows thrilling aromas of black fruits, cherry, licorice, and assorted meaty characteristics on the nose. Medium to full-bodied and perfectly balanced, with an elegant, seamless texture and a long, tannic finish, this gorgeous Gigondas will benefit from bottle age, and evolve effortlessly for 12-15+ years.
Purplish crimson. Spicy, juicy nose bursting with fruit. Quite transparent and delicate but with attractive balance and approachability. This seems to be an honest expression of the terrain. Even if not for the very long term. Good balance. (JR)
