From barrel, the 1998 Crozes-Hermitage Raymond Roure was impressive. Now that it is in bottle, it appears tough-textured, lean, tannic, closed, and uninteresting. Saturated, deep medium ruby. Superripe, port-like aromas of chocolate-covered cherries and beefsteak tomato. Large-scaled, fat and gamey; the note of tomato-ey surmaturite repeats in the mouth. Long on personality. Tannins are nicely ripe for the vintage. Excellent potential.
