Glossy ruby. Rather closed on the palate, and a little more dilute than most vintages. Coffee character, fresh red fruit, but not so driven and expansive as the 2007, for instance. (RH)

Sweet, transparent and very lively and flirtatious. Lovely balance. Really a standout. Long. Some violets. Great zest but not green. (JR)
Medium red. Ripe, smoky aromas and flavors of strawberry, dark cherry and rooty earth. Velvety, broad and supple; silky and plump but with a light touch. Not as fruity or complex as the 2007 bottling but nicely perfumed and spicy in the mouth and aromatic on the back end. Finishes with a light dusting of tannins.
Winemaker Adrian Baker. Grapes are handpicked and destemmed before fermentation with indigenous yeasts and hand pigeage in open-top oak tanks. The wine is then drained by gravity into barrels where Malolactic fermentation takes place before being left to mature for 14 months . Bright crimson. Dense and serious and with some savoury character. Much more layered than most. Pretty well done for the price. (JR)
