Note di degustazione
Although slightly diluted, the 2000 Cote Rotie Les Rochains is a soft, easygoing, charming effort revealing hints of earth, red as well as black fruits, and oak. Spicy and well-made, but essentially one-dimensional and superficial, it should be consumed over the next 5-7 years. This moderately sized domaine (approximately 17 acres) has come on strong lately thanks to the talented Christophe Bonnefond. Importer: A Christopher Cannan Selection, various American importers including Michael Skurnik, Syosset, NY; tel. (516) 677-9300 and Diamond Wine Merchants, Oakland, CA; tel. (510) 567-9897

(aged in 100% new oak, vs. 25% for the basic bottling) Deep medium ruby. Vibrant nose combines blackberry, gunflint, licorice, bitter chocolate and oak spices. Richer and thicker than the cuvee classique, with more generosity of texture and sheer size. In a distinctly Cote Brune style with its notes of smoke, mocha and gunflint. Ripe and lush in the middle. Finishes with sweet tannins and subtle peppery persistence. I'd hold this for five years.
