The pale green straw-colored 1997 Gewurztraminer Clos Windsbuhl soars from the glass with mouth-watering pot-pourri and spice aromas. This dry, medium-to-full-bodied, boisterous wine has extraordinary richness but is rendered light on its feet due to its high (but imperceptible) alcohol. Its gorgeously detailed character reveals pineapple soaked minerals and flowers whose flavors last throughout its impressively long finish. Drink it over the next 5-6 years.

Pale color. Aromas of rose petal, lichee and licorice. Spicy and powerful, with strong acidity and obviously high alcohol. Not at all a fruity style, and difficult to drink today. Richer on the finish than on the attack. Will this rather topheavy wine come into balance? Undeniably impressive, but a wine that commands respect rather than affection.
