1977 Gran Coronas Mas la Plana

Magnum, sought out by Christophe Brunet at Etienne Hugel's request because 1977 is the birth year of his, Etienne's, Japanese wife Kaoru. 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, six months in new American oak and 12 months in older oak. This was not a particularly lauded vintage but this magnum was in great shape even if I don't think it had any more to give. It tasted like a mature bordeaux from a particularly ripe, distant vintage and managed to be both fresh and sweet. (JR)
