Slightly stalky on the nose. Quite tense and lively on the palate but the tannins finish soft, silky and fresh. (JH)

The 2008 Block 2 Pinot Noir gives a pale to medium ruby color plus fragrant aromas of cherries, roses and fallen leaves. The generous fruit on the medium-full-bodied palate is supported with high acidity and a medium level of fine grained tannins. Finishing long, this makes a delicious glass now, though it should cellar to 2016. With an emphasis on single vineyard wines that express their region, Yabby Lake only produces wines from estate grown fruit. They are currently in the process of converting to organic farming. After more than 12 years at Yering Station, one of Victoria's most skilled winemakers, Tom Carson, has recently joined the Yabby Lake group as Chief Winemaker and General Manager. -We're looking for expression over impression,- Tom Carson told me, referring to their efforts to bring a sense of place to their wines. The expressive new single block releases really exemplify this statement. Importer: Yabby Lake Vineyard Inc., Lafayette, CA; tel. (925) 962-9229
