2001 Tokaji Essencia

(5.9% alcohol; 100% furmint; around 400 g/l r.s. and 8 g/l acidity): Full, deep orange-gold. Nose dominated by minty medicinal herbs, orange liqueur and truffle; like smelling dried berries. Very thick and saline in the mouth, with flavors similar to the aromas, plus a hint of clove. Not particularly high in acidity for the category. Finishes very long, with truffle and molasses nuances. I wanted a bit energy. (A second bottle showed similar aromas and flavors but also somewhat more advanced marzipan and nutty notes, meriting 90 points.)
