A wine that's just starting to enter the early stages of adolescence, the 2005 St Joseph Lieu Dit St Joseph shows the classic, focused and mineral-driven nature of the 2005 vintage. Graphite, chocolate, toasted spice, charcoal and lots of mineral-laced dark fruits all emerge from this full-bodied, concentrated and peppery St Joseph. Possessing lots of ripeness and superb mid-palate depth, it will have 2+ decades of longevity when all is said and done.

Bright ruby. Alluring bouquet of fresh red berries, rose, violet and graphite. Deep, sweet strawberry and raspberry flavors offer impressive clarity and building spiciness. A slow burn of minerals adds cut to the long, juicy finish. This is beautiful and should be a ridiculous bargain.
The backward 2005 St.-Joseph has shut down since I first tasted it from barrel. It reveals a dark ruby/purple color along with notions of underbrush, forest floor, licorice, and red as well as black currants. Deep, medium-bodied, tannic, and tightly-constructed, it requires 2-3 years of bottle age, and should age well over the following 12 years. Robert Parker, Wine Advocate April 2009
