A plethora of spices and plump yellow fruits can be discerned in the nose of the 1998 Gewurztraminer Altenbourg Cuvee Laurence. Medium-bodied, velvety-textured, and decadently-styled, this thick, honeyed wine is packed with a compote of yellow fruits, cloves, and juniper berries. Intriguing aromas of candied ginger, honey and crystallized citrus fruit. Superripe and quite sweet, but just short of thick, with a hint of botrytis bitterness and a mineral firmness giving it more finesse than the '97. Finishes with terrific cut and freshness. Real grand cru penetration and class, and more opulent than the '97.
