Note di degustazione
Bright ruby. Cassis and kirsch on the nose, with notes of dried flowers, tobacco and dark chocolate adding complexity. Broad, palate-coating dark fruit flavors are firmed by chewy tannins and pick up a note of mocha with air. Showing a serious personality today, finishing with strong grip, very good length and repeating notes of tobacco and cherry. I'd hold off on opening this for a couple more years.

Other than the light, stemmy 2007 Cote Rotie Cuvee du Plessy, this is a strong group of wines from the President of the Union of Cote Rotie Vignerons. The 2007 Cuvee du Plessy, which is aged in demi-muids, includes 5% co-fermented Viognier. While it lacks depth and richness, it exhibits a dark ruby hue as well as a herbaceous style with straightforward berry fruit, herb, and spice characteristics. (Not yet released) Barges also has a new offering (not yet named) from the southern part of the Cote Rotie appellation, and he is in the process of replanting a sector on the Cote Blonde. I tasted this cuvee in 2007. It has about 7% Viognier co-fermented, and it reveals the potential to be outstanding. I will wait until it is in bottle to provide a full review. 4% Viognier. Extremely rich and scented. Dry and youthful. Needs lots of time. Fresh and scrubbed. (JR)
