The 2009 Bourgogne is made from 18 parcels in Chambolle. It is a beautiful, fleshy wine laced with radiant fruit and a round, caressing personality. This delicious, harmonious 2009 is a great introduction to the vintage. The Bourgogne was bottled in late December, 2010.

Anticipated maturity: 2011-2017. I tasted the following wines with Charles Van Canneyt, Alain Hudelot’s grandson. Van Canneyt showed me a few 2008s before moving into the 2009s. The estate did some chaptalization in 2008. Based on the selection of wines I tasted, that may have robbed some of the 2008s of their vintage character. Vintage 2009 seems to have played more to the estate’s strengths. The estate used 50% new oak for the Grand Crus and 30% for the 1ers. Importer: Atherton Imports, Menlo Park, CA; tel. (650) 328-6639
Looks more or less the same light cherry red as the Premier Cru Gevrey from Louis Boillot tasted alongside it. Full, ripe and immediate on the nose. Amazingly sweet palate entry. Lots of zest – almost orange zest! There is lightness here but great balance too. Easy, friendly. Sweet and fresh. Great stuff for early drinking. VGV (JR)
