Deep ruby. Seductive aromas of dark berry preserves, cola and violet, with a touch of oak spice coming up with aeration. Bright, sweet and expansive on the palate, offering intense blackberry and bitter cherry flavors lifted by a floral pastille nuance. Fine-grained tannins add shape to the very long, spicy, smoke-accented finish.

Even better is the 2009 Crozes-Hermitage Cuvee Gaby, which exhibits more forest floor and floral characteristics intermixed with olive, truffle and spice box undertones, creme de cassis, charcoal and earth. This dense, full-bodied, voluptuously textured Crozes will age effortlessly for 10-15 years. 100% Marsanne. Firm, almondy nose with real structure and honeysuckle palate. Round and very easy to like. Lots of sweetness. But not flabby. (JR)
