From Kate Dugdale's cellar. Browning garnet. Meaty and leafy at the same time. Smells fresh and fragrant. Leafy on the palate with quite a grip even though the tannins are fine enough to be described as chalky. Chewy finish is slightly abrupt and drying a little but there's some leafy pleasure at the very end. (JH)

Jeroboam Very dark, deep and savoury. This seems pretty youthful and still very concentrated with notes of tar and leather. A remarkable La Chapelle and a remarkable 1980. (JR)
A dark garnet color with moderate ruby at the edge is followed by a wine with an interesting nose of fruitcake, sweet, overripe plums, smoked meats, and Asian spices. The fragrant nose is deceptive given the medium-bodied, compact flavors. This wine possesses a tannic bite as well as acidic sharpness, with the fruit drying out in the finish. Although it needs to be drunk up, it still has merit. Mature now. Last tasted 5/96.
Lively, prancing, heady. Low key. Lots of tannin. Lively, round, but edgy. (JR)
