Arnoux’s 1990 Vosne-Romanée Suchots was another pretty, ethereal wine. Lovely and caressing on the palate, it offered outstanding length and a superb finish.

The extraordinary 1990 Vosne-Romanee-Les Suchots exhibits that oriental spice, sweet black fruit and vanillin nose that I find hauntingly similar to the bouquet found in the wines of the Domaine de la Romanee-Conti. The color is a deep ruby/purple. The nose is explosively complex and rich. On the palate, the dense, full-bodied, rich, layered texture is all sweetness, jammy fruit, and glycerin. This decadent, hedonistic red burgundy should continue to drink well for 7-10 years. Unquestionably, the 1990's are Robert Arnoux's finest wines since his 1978s and 1980s. During much of the eighties, because of his predilection to over-crop, good, rather than dazzling wines were made. The 1990s are exciting, dramatic Pinot Noirs. Importer: Peter Vezan Selections, various American importers, including Ideal Wine and Spirits, Medford, MA.
