The 2009 Chateau Thenac is a blend of 58% Merlot, 20% Malbec, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc matured for 15 months in oak barrels. It has a seductive richness on the nose with glycerine-rich black cherry and boysenberry jam aromas, surprisingly unevolved. The palate is full-bodied with quite a heady, rich opening. I would have preferred a little more acidic bite towards the finish, but there is decent length and I can imagine this slightly rustic "beast" of a Bergerac to age a further 5-6 years.Tasted March 2015.

Very dark purple. Intense colour. A bit volatile but lots of luscious fruit on the palate even if there is a slight lack of freshness. Not the tightest or most complete 2009… As though some of the flavour were boiled off. I’m sure the raw ingredients were great but it doesn’t taste as though the best was made of them. (JR)
