Found after a long while ... Deep gold. Still remarkably fresh on the nose with some definite evolution. Lightly floral and strongly limy. Some perceptible residual sugar but even more acidity. A hugely creditable New Zealand version of a fine Spätlese. My only criticism is that it falls away a little on the sudden end. Full marks for longevity. No signs of falling off its perch at all. The 2009 Riesling is a medium-dry style with a light body and just 10% alcohol. It reveals intense lime juice, honeysuckle and orange blossom notes plus a little wet slate. A wonderful backbone of crisp, nervy acidity defines the palate, lingering into the long, honeyed finish. Drink it from 2012 to 2017. Winemaker Blair Walter continues to work his magic with the recent releases from Central Otago’s most famous Estate.
