Slightly muted on the nose and this is showing some very nice development. More restrained and with less make-up that the Guigal, this is a terroir wine. Now mature, this shows tobacco, sweet oak and black olives, is superbly balanced and shows the Cote Rotie’s slightly feminine style really well.

The 1995 Côte Rôtie Côte Blonde shows the more structured, focused style of this vintage and has a complex, nuanced bouquet of ripe dark berry fruits, tobacco, black olive tapenade, and menthol. Full-bodied, concentrated, and seamless on the palate, with notable concentration, it should continue drinking nicely through 2025 and, I suspect, have a gradual decline after that.
From a vintage that produced classic, structured and focused reds, the 1995 Côte Rôtie Côte Blonde came from miniscule yields of 18 hectoliters and offers a gorgeous bouquet of sweet dark fruits, tobacco leaf, olive tapenade and mint. About as classic an expression of this incredible terroir as you’re likely to find, it has full-bodied richness, superb concentration, and a seamless, silky texture. It’s drinking brilliantly today, and can be consumed anytime over the coming decade.
