The same can be said for the 2008 Hermitage Le Reverdy Blanc, also composed of 50% Roussanne and 50% Marsanne. More crushed rock, orange blossom, apricot jam and roasted nut-like notes emerge from this elegant, mid-weight white Hermitage as well as surprising intensity and richness. It is best consumed over the next 5-7 years. Ferraton’s parent company, Chapoutier, has done an excellent job in St.-Peray working with Marsanne and Roussanne. This long-forgotten appellation may turn out to be the Northern Rhone’s white wine answer to Burgundy’s Chablis. (a 50/50 blend of marsanne and roussanne) Vivid gold. Deeply pitched, spice-accented aromas of orange pith, pear and melon, with subtle mineral and smoke notes that become more assertive with air. Rich but lively, with juicy orchard fruit and citrus flavors and a kick of tangy minerality. The spicy, persistent finish ends on a sweet note of candied orange.
Bright yellow-gold. Pungent aromas of magnolia, jasmine, white peach and tangerine, with a strong mineral overtone. Racy, mineral-driven citrus flavors gain weight with air and take a turn to deeper orchard and pit fruits. The very fresh finish shows strong mineral cut and lingering spice and floral notes.
