Punteggio 18/20 · Da bere 1990-2025, Jancis Robinson MW, Mar 2015

Everyone else declared the 1966! Dark ruby and glowing and regarded by the Symington’s as very typical of Cockburn’s. Very jewelly and transparent – bet with Johnny Graham (of Churchill’s) that Paul Symington would eat his hat if it matched Dow’s 66 – very delicate. Not great power but real sinew and absolutely classic for Cockburn’s. Very fine indeed. (JR)

Punteggio 18/20 · Da bere 1990-2020, Jancis Robinson MW, Sep 2012

Cockburn and three other companies declared 1967 as opposed to 1966. Paul Symington bet his oldest friend Johnny Graham of Churchill Graham that when the wines were 25 years old Dow 1966 would be better than Cockburn 1967. Paul Symington said he would eat his hat and admits that he should at least chew the rim of his hat. ‘A typically eccentric Cockburn declaration,’ is how he described it. Pale ruby. Fully mature. Rose petals and a hint of treacle. Relatively lightweight and very dry on the finish. Peter Cobb says this personified the older Cockburn style. They sought finesse and so chose 1935 over 1934 and 1947 over 1948. Delicacy. Very charming. But light. Fresh and super clean. (JR)
