Fresh full ruby. Higher-toned, higher-pitched aromas of black cherry, blackberry pie, bitter chocolate, espresso and grilled meat; conveys a much stronger impression of ripeness and personality than the 2002. Densely packed and liqueur-like but also juicy and sappy, with fine-grained flavors of blackberry, leather and dark chocolate. Shows a distinctly southern ripeness that verges on roasted without going pruney. Finishes nicely sweet, with a fine dusting of tannins and lingering notes of dark berries, cherry and spices. A very good value.

45% Malbec, less than 10% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon . Very dark purple, and again a very ripe nose – heat. Another rather burnt, tarry note. Very gentle sweet palate entry, then enough acidity. Again slightly hot finish. Certainly good value for immediate drinking. (JR)
