Punteggio 88/100 · Da bere 2007-2011, Mark Squires, Dec 2007

The 2000 CHRYSEIA is well structured with a nice mouthfeel, a bit gamey, with some charcoal notes. Structurally, the wine is alive, vibrant and young, but there is a note of oxidation here as well, and the fruit seems to be aging unusually fast, throwing off lots of tertiary notes. There are a lot of things here still to like, but I would want to drink this sooner rather than later unless you are a big fan, and some are, of those forest floor nuances. Drink now-2011. The Symingtons, owners of Dow’s and Graham’s ports, among others, pair up with Bruno Prats of Cos d’Estournel fame here to make Chryseia, the Greek translation of “Douro,” literally meaning “of gold.” Library wines here are included simply as a point of reference, useful data on a relatively new venture. Punteggio 17/20 · Da bere 2005-2010, Jancis Robinson MW, Feb 2005

Deep crimson. More depth than many. Very sumptuous and heady on the nose. Smoky notes and very suave on the palate. Lots of tannin and acidity. A bit jagged. Fruit, but with layers of smoothness from the very bordeaux-like elevage on top. (JR)
