Carignano, current release. Joint venture with Santadi in Sardinia. Some old (35- to 40-year-old) Guyot vines. A tiny bit of 10% Cabernet and 5% Merlot in this. Not sold as Carignano del Sulcis so as not to be confused with Santadi’s Terre Brune. Mid ruby with definite brown notes. Very ripe and round and broad. Very hot and sweet. No hint of Carignan rankness. Big and bold and much cruder than Sassicaia! (JR)
