Sugar-coated slate and flint aromas are exhibited by the 2002 Riesling Spatlese Saarburger Rausch. This deep, complex, and concentrated wine bastes the palate with sweet minerals and cotton candy. Soft, satin-textured, and lush, this is a rich, expressive offering for drinking between 2007 and 2022. Yellow cherries, fresh apricot and flowers in the nose. On the palate, vividly juicy, vibrant fresh fruit allies itself with both cool blue and invigoratingly salty slate manifestations. Superbly balanced, this pours forth cherry and apricot fruit in the finish, followed by an almost compulsive next sip. If there is a better bottle of riesling anywhere in the world this year for the price, I haven't found it. 2 stars.
