Mango and pineapple plus a hint of woodsmoke on the nose. Opulently rich and creamy in texture, this is also vividly juicy in its fruit expression, with the sweetness well integrated compared to that of this vintage's Norheimer Kirschheck Spatlese. Long and resonant. 1 star.

The floral, white fruit-scented 2003 Riesling Spatlese Schlossbockelheimer Felsenberg is broad, ample, and light to medium-bodied. This pure, deep effort reveals loads of cotton candy-laced white fruit flavors. Its personality bursts forth on the palate with the same fervor as pop rocks candies yet, instead of fading away as those sweets did, this wine seamlessly retains its powerful hold on the taster from the attack to the finish. Stinkier. Lots of minerals and sleek greenness. Pungent. Great undertow. Quite astringent and very, very youthful. Broad and vibrant. Big and powerful. Explosive fruit. Not even the merest hint of skinniness. Very neat and full. Volcanic soils. (JR)
