Punteggio 17/20 · Da bere 2015-2022, Jancis Robinson MW, Sep 2013

Very stressed vintage and global warming effects seen for the first time. Very early spring and then went cool and didn't seem to recover. Grapes approached harvest without being really ripe despite the fact that it was already 114 days from flowering and they were running out of their phenological cycle. Realised nothing else exciting would happen. Got us thinking about how phenological cycle affects wine. Rather serious and majestic – very concentrated and dry. Exciting with real undertow. Some black cherry notes. (JR)

RS 0 g/l. Scented cherry fruit. Immediate finesse of savoury-spiced red fruit and fine, dense tannins. Finely balanced and promising. (JH)

Medium deep ruby-purple in color, the 2011 Bannockburn Pinot Noir reveals slightly reduced aromas that are beginning to give way to notes of tar, ripe cherries and black raspberries, with nuances of earth, meat, loam, bark plus a touch of Provence herbs. Medium to full-bodied with medium to high acid and a medium level of grainy tannins, it shows a very savory, earthy character on the palate and finishes with good persistence. Drink it 2013 to 2018+. Good bright, full red. Deep cherry aroma complemented by sexy soil tones. Ripe and fine-grained but youthfully restrained, with black and red fruit flavors complicated by soil-inflected minerality. Not yet especially sweet or perfumed but impressively concentrated, supple and smooth. The dry finish features suave tannins. This needs at least a couple years in the cellar to harmonize.
