Punteggio 18/20 · Da bere 2009-2019, Jancis Robinson MW, Mar 2009

Bluer than Emily’s Paddock tasted the same day. Very dense. Full and aromatic and really intense. Fragrant sweet start and then very lively and alive wine that drives itself back over the palate. Long and pure with velvety texture and very clean acidity. Carries its alcohol well. (JR)

Punteggio 94/100 · Da bere 2013-2026, Jay S Miller, Wine Advocate, Feb 2009

The 2006 Shiraz Georgia’s Paddock was aged in 30% new oak. Aromas of pain grille, pencil lead, violets, blueberry, blackberry, and licorice lead to a full-bodied, structured, succulent Shiraz with plenty of spice and floral notes emerging on the palate. Give it 4-5 years of additional cellaring and drink it from 2013 to 2026. Ron Laughton was one of Heathcote’s original pioneers 25 years ago and now finds himself surrounded by more than 75 wineries. Nevertheless, Jasper Hill (along with Wild Duck Creek) remains at the top of the pyramid. It is a no frills winery with all of the Laughton family’s energy devoted to viticulture. The vineyards are dry-farmed and organic. They have also begun a joint venture with Michel Chapoutier to develop a vineyard adjacent to the existing property. When I visited the winery in September 2008, Ron Laughton was kind enough to show me a virtually complete vertical of both Georgia’s and Emily’s Paddock which I will post on my blog space on erobertparker.com. It goes without saying that these impeccably made wines age beautifully. Importer: Gavin Speight, Old Bridge Cellars, Napa, CA; www.jasperhill.com

Opaque ruby. Youthfully brooding at first sniff, offering slow-to-open cassis and plum aromas along with mace, allspice and dried flowers. Brighter raspberry and blackberry on the palate, enlivened by smoky minerals, baking spices and a candied floral note. Lots of material here but the wine is reluctant to give up much right now. The spicy notes repeat on the long, chewy finish. Hands off.
