Fully mature, the 1997 Côte Rôtie La Belle Hélène is drinking beautifully and offers darker berries, dried herbs, and savory characteristics on the nose, with subtle floral nuances emerging with time in the glass. Medium-bodied, elegant, and resolved on the palate, it has fine tannins, integrated acidity, and a great finish. This regal, elegant Côte Rôtie isn't going to get any better but should have a gradual decline going forward.

The 1997 Cote Rotie Belle Helene is backward rather than seductive and open-knit. It exhibits a deep ruby color with purple nuances, and sweet toasty new oak aromas intertwined with jammy kirsch and creme de cassis. With airing black olive scents also emerge in this complex, nicely nuanced, medium to full-bodied effort. The finish possesses sweet fruit. While the 1997 is low in acidity, it has a tannic grip.
