Medium deep crimson. Very deep and intriguing. This wine needs decanting at this stage. Savoury, meaty nose – quite different from the McLaren Vale mainstream with much more tucked away for future developmemt. Very rich and tarry on the palate with some treacle toffee notes and lots of quite fine tannins on the finish. Some elegance of structure despite the very ripe fruit. Amazing lift and dancing stuff on a tightrope. Very distinctive. Much more obviously fruity than Savitar. (JR)

The formidable 2001 Shiraz G. A. M. exhibits a saturated purple color in addition to classic aromas of French oak intermixed with blackberry liqueur, pepper, and spice. Full-bodied, rich, and intense with admirable balance, elegance, and overall harmony, this French-styled, complex, nuanced Shiraz will drink well for 12-15 years. This new winery is a partnership of Ben Glaetzer and Frank Mitolo. According to the importer, no expense will be spared in producing these wines from this McLaren Vale Shiraz vineyard. One hundred percent new French oak is utilized. These are both imposing newcomers to Australia's high quality wine sweepstakes. Importer: Benjamin Hammerschlag, Epicurean Wines, Seattle, WA; tel.
