The 2006 Cotes du Rhone was made from 100% Syrah that was actually declassified wine from the estate vineyards in Gigondas blended with wine he bought from Vinsobres and Rasteau. This is dense ruby/purple, big, deep, and fruity, with loads of blackberry fruit. It is not terribly complex at the moment, but mouthfilling, very supple-textured, and corpulent. This wine should drink nicely for 4-5 years. These are all negociant wines from the very talented Gigondas proprietor Louis Barruol. He has a small but flourishing negociant business in addition to his estate wines from Gigondas, and these are his cuvees from Cotes du Rhone. An excellent wine, the 2006 Saint-Cosme Côtes du Rhône shows surprising density and concentration. This boasts a dark red/purple color as well as big, straight forward aromatics of rich dark fruit, pepper, mineral and earth notes. Medium bodied on the palate with impressive concentration, nice balanced and a medium length finish with some noticeable tannins. This actually closed down slightly with air but continued to show sweet fruit and nice structure.
