2005 Urziger Wurzgarten Auslese Goldkapsel

Like its Wehlen counterpart, the 2005 Urziger Wurzgarten Riesling Auslese Gold Capsule is immediately distinguished by the sheer intensity of its aromas, in this case of lightly cooked strawberry, lime zest, and brown spices. On the palate, honey and vanilla cream mingled with strawberry and studded with lime zest make for an imposing combination of richness and offsetting, but well-integrated tartness. The finish is rich and dense – not soaring nor possessed of quite the bright clarity of the corresponding Wehlener, but superbly complex and concentrated in its own right.
