2010 Blaufrankisch Reihburg

Schiefer's 2010 Blaufränkisch Reihburg from the Eisenberg region in South Burgenland confirms its outstanding class once more and also in an altitude of 1,444 meters. Tasted at the ski resort Lech/Arlberg last December, the wine showed an awesome intense and matured cherry aroma on the spicy and crystalline, slate-driven bouquet that developed into dark fruit aromas that intermingled with tea, meat, blood and iron notes. Vital, concentrated and gripping, this is a powerful and elegant yet not massive heavyweight. Instead, this is very intense, structured and even finessed Blaufränkisch with crystalline acidity and lingering salinity. This is a grandiose mature wine from the Eisenberg, though Uwe never used that appellation, because for many years, he produced an Eisenberg red wine before the DAC rules were set up.
