Dark crimson. Very zesty and fresh but with massive ripe fruit too. Muscular and admirable with no rough edges. (JR)
Fruity, slightly oxidative black bramble character, smooth but not bald – has just enough grip to give a bit of shape. Fragrant finish. (RH)
The basic cuvee, the 2010 Gigondas, is made from 50-year-old vines (80% Grenache, 15% Syrah and 5% Mourvedre) aged in tank (40%) and the balance in large wood foudres and 600-liter demi-muids. This rich, attractive red reveals lots of garrigue, licorice, black currant and sweet kirsch notes along with an expansive, round, delicious personality. It is ideal for drinking now and over the next 5-8 years. These are three super efforts from Jean-Pierre Meffre, who owns an estate of 30 acres in Gigondas.
