Punteggio 91/100 · Da bere 2010-2020, Jeb Dunnuck, Feb 2010

A blend of 80% Grenache, 5% Mourvèdre and a dash of Syrah, Cinsault and Clairette, the 2006 Domaine les Pallières Gigondas needs air to show its best. Once open, it offers perfumed, traditional aromas of sweet cherries, garrigue, flowers and minerals. There’s a fair amount of ripeness to the fruit, but this is fresh and clean as opposed to rich and dense. In the mouth, the wine is medium bodied with a gorgeous, silky texture, deft balance and moderate tannins that carry the long finish. This has all of the components to age well and if drinking anytime soon, don’t be afraid to open the bottle ahead of time.

(from vines averaging 75 years of age) Medium red. Complex nose offers scents of strawberry, raspberry, fresh flowers, minerals and Asian spices. Focused and pure, reminiscent of a serious Burgundy, with sweet red berry flavors and a firming note of cherry skin. Silky tannins add focus to the long, sappy finish.

The Bruniers of Vieux Télégraphe’s Gigondas looks awfully good in 2006. Made up of 80% 60 year-old Grenache vines with 5% each of Mourvèdre, Syrah, Cinsault and mixed white varieties, this is rich, round and spicy – is obviously more open than their Châteauneufs. Very sweet and massively proportioned, this should be approached with care – it’s very alcoholic – but is definitely worth looking out for if this is a style to your taste. (JR)

Medium red. Hugely seductive aromas of red berries, garrigue, rose and incense display room-filling power. Vibrant strawberry and raspberry flavors are finely etched and strikingly sweet, with energetic minerality adding clarity and lift. Remarkably elegant Gigondas with the pure sex appeal to enjoy in its youth but also the balance to repay cellaring. A must purchase for southern Rhone freaks.
