Ruby-red. Enticing aromas of roasted plum, gunflint and beefsteak tomato. Supple, sweet and aromatic in the mouth, with roasted plum and pepper flavors enlivened and nicely framed by ripe acids. Finishes with suave, ripe tannins and very good length.

The deep ruby/purple-colored 2001 Crozes-Hermitage exhibits sweet, slightly herbal, black cherry and currant aromas and flavors with hints of licorice, new saddle leather, and grilled meats. Medium-bodied and dense, with nicely integrated acidity as well as tannin, it will benefit from 1-2 years of cellaring, and will keep for a decade or more. (this was filtered the morning of my visit in preparation for the bottling) Good ruby-red. Dark berries, minerals, smoke, tree bark and fresh herbs on the nose. Round and rather silky in the mouth, with good texture and flesh. Solid but smooth tannins give the wine good structural support.
