Kiwi and lemon aromas. Quite lithe and bright on the palate for the vintage. Smooth and polished in texture. Lipsmackingly juicy and appropriately long on slate, if not quite so striking or complex as the corresponding Kabinett. 1 star.

Slate, black currants, and minerals are found in the aromatic profile of the 2003 Riesling Spatlese Urziger Wurzgarten. Medium-bodied, it reveals a juicy, polite personality filled with apples, candied lemons, and zesty citrus fruits. Projected maturity: 2006-2012. Readers should note that while the U.S. dollar has all but collapsed against the Euro and that shipping costs have risen due to higher fuel prices, this estate’s U.S. prices have barely budged in the last two years.
