Deep ruby. Fresh red and dark berry aromas, with notes of Asian spices and incense. Chewy raspberry and blackberry flavors show a tough quality and pick up notes of licorice and olive with air. On the serious side, with good finishing grip and an echo of bitter cherry.

Aromas of road tar, truffles, tapenade, cassis, and raspberries emerge from the medium to full-bodied 2007 Cote Rotie. With a sensual, silky softness to the tannins, and plenty of character, this 2007 will provide pleasure during its first decade of life. (Not yet released) This small, 14-acre estate is one of the finest in Cote Rotie (the Bonnefonds also own 2.5 acres in Condrieu), and their 2007 offerings are among the top wines of the vintage in this appellation. Heady and denser than many Côte Rôties, but very rewarding and tarry and rich. A bit chewy and not the most classical but satisfying. (JR)
Youthful purple color. Sexy Asian spice and red berry aromas are complicated by smoked meat and incense. Darker berries are on display in the mouth, along with hints of black olive and sweet chewing tobacco. Finishes with good grip and a jolt of refreshingly bitter cherry pit. This is already beginning to show some complexity.
