Punteggio 90/100 · Da bere 1999-2014, Robert Parker, Oct 1999

One of the treats when tasting through the profound Côte Rôties made by Marcel Guigal was the opportunity to taste all of the bottled 1995's. Reviewed in previous issues, they are even better from bottle than they were during their upbringing (a characteristic of many Guigal wines). The 1995 Côte Rôtie Brune et Blonde is the stuff of legends and is every bit as compelling as readers might expect. This single vineyard wine will have at least 10-15 years of longevity.

Deep ruby-red; darker than Guigal's '95 Hermitage. Superripe, sappy aromas of spicy raspberry, violet, pepper and smoky oak. Starting to shut down in the bottle, but still reveals a supple texture, very good depth of flavor and sound firming acidity. Comes across as rather tannic today. This is a much rounder wine than it's showing today, says Marcel Guigal's son, Philippe.
