Note di degustazione
(92% grenache and 8% mourvedre): Vivid ruby. Intensely perfumed, expansive scents of red and dark berries, garrigue and licorice, with a bright, spicy quality adding lift. Densely packed but with impressive energy and clarity to its raspberry and cherry flavors. Picks up a sexy floral quality with air and finishes with impressive vivacity and length.

The top cuvee, the 2009 Gigondas La Font du Tonin (92% Grenache and 8% Mourvedre aged for at least 12 months in small, old Burgundy barrels) reveals background notes of barbecue smoke and charcoal as well as lots of roasted Provencal herb, spring flower, spice box, kirsch and black currant characteristics. Textured, long, pure and velvety smooth, this medium to full-bodied, evolved Gigondas is best consumed over the next 7-8 years. This has been one of the top estates in Gigondas since the mid-nineties thanks to the efforts of the Faravel family. I did not see the regular 2009 Gigondas since it is apparently sold out.
