Floral and blueberry aromas jump from the glass of the inky/blue/purple-tinged 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Blocks Road. From 41- and 60-year old vineyards, it is another superb example of just how good South Australian Cabernet Sauvignon can be. Aged in 300 liter French hogsheads (40% new), and bottled unfined and unfiltered, it reveals a style not unlike a terrific mountain Cabernet from Napa. Blueberry, acacia flower, black raspberry, and creme de cassis characteristics along with a subtle hint of spicy oak emerge from this full-bodied, rich, pure, elegant, long effort. It is a steal at $30. Importer: Peter Weygandt, Weygandt-Metzler, Unionville, PA; tel. (610) 486-0800

Ruby red. Lush dark berry aromas accented by sexy violet and sweet oak spices. Explosive, juicy flavors of cherry, redcurrant and black raspberry, with no rough edges or herbal tones. But this more than simply a fruit bomb as the flavors are focused, lively and sweet, with some subtle, peppery spice notes emerging on the long, bright finish. This was raised in all French oak.
